Remembering Ton Kooijman !!

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Ton Kooijman.

Ton Kooijman devoted decades of tireless service to the international bridge community and leaves behind an extraordinary legacy as one of the world’s foremost authorities on the Laws of Duplicate Bridge.

As Chairman of the WBF Laws Committee and Honorary Chief Tournament Director, he played a vital role in developing, interpreting and safeguarding the Laws of Bridge. His sharp intellect, vast knowledge, integrity and commitment to fairness made him a guiding light for tournament directors, officials and players worldwide.

Ton also made a valuable contribution to the Indian bridge community. During his association with the BFAME Championships in Chennai, he conducted a Tournament Directors’ Refresher Course, giving Indian and regional officials the opportunity to learn directly from his immense experience and expertise. His guidance helped strengthen the understanding and application of the Laws and international standards of tournament direction in the region.

Beyond his professional achievements, Ton was a generous mentor, patient teacher and warm colleague. His willingness to share his knowledge and his passion for bridge touched countless lives across the world.

The Bridge Federation of India joins the global bridge community in mourning his loss. We remember Ton with deep gratitude and respect for his invaluable contribution to bridge and for the lasting impression he made on the Indian bridge fraternity.

His wisdom, integrity and friendship will be deeply missed and fondly remembered.
