Today was the last day of the qualifying stage of the Bridge events at the 19th Asian Games at Hangzhou. The TOP 4 teams in each event qualified for the Semi finals.
The Indian Men team easily qualified for the Semi finals securing 2nd place with a score of 288.6 VPs. The top 4 position holders are:
- Hong Kong, China – 308.31 VPs
- India – 288.6
- China – 287.91
- Japan – 237.96
The 96 boards Semi final will be played tomorrow & day after. The line up for Semi final will be Hong Kong China Vs Japan and India vs China. India is now guaranteed of atleast one medal in this event.
The Indian Mixed team who were in good position to qualify till day before, lost their momentum yesterday after losing 2 important matches. Though they tried their level best today, but had to be satisfied with only 5th position with a score of 233.28 VPs. The qualifiers to Semi final are Chinese Taipei, China, Singapore & Thailand. Thus we have lost the opportunity to win a medal in the Mixed event.
Indian Women team could only finish at 7th position with a score of 125.48 VPs. China, Hong Kong China, Chinese Taipei & Singapore have qualified to the Semi finals.
We hope the Indian Men team will try their best to qualify to the final.
