INDIAN SENIOR TEAM CREATE HISTORY
April 8, 2022Today will be remembered in Gold letters in Bridge history of India. The Senior Indian Team playing in the World Bridge Championships 2021 being held at Salsomaggiore Terme, Italy has qualified for the Final of the Seniors event. This is the first time ever when any Indian team has qualified to the final of the World Championships.
The team is being represented by R. Krishnan (Captain cum Coach), Ashok Goel, Anil Padhye, Rajesh Dalal, Sukamal Das & Subrata Roy.
They finished the round robin in 5th position behind USA1, Denmark, Poland & France. In the quarter-final they were chosen as opponents by the mighty USA1 team with renowned players Zia Mahmood & Jeff Mackstroth in it. In the grueling 6 sets (each of 16 boards) quarter finals, they prevailed over their mighty opponents by 4 IMPs (150-146).
In the Semi-final they faced another strong team in France. But kept their steely nerves intact to humble them by 28 IMPs (225-197).
In the finals, they are up against the strong Polish team and we all hope they will bring glory to India. All the Best to them for the finals.
From L to R: Rajesh Dalal, Anil Padhye, R. Krishnan, Ashok Goel, Sukamal Saha, Subrata Roy, T.C. Pant (Team Manager)
