Selection Committee Report – Pune camp

The Selection Committee meeting was held on 14th February after the completion of Men/Open Category Final league at PYC Hind Gymkhana for the announcement of Indian Team (Men/Open category) to represent the country at the BFAME (Bridge Federation of Asia and Middle East) and APBF Championships (Asia Pacific Bridge Championships).

For the Mixed and Women Category, the selection committee held a detailed telephonic conference meeting on 18th February.

The Members of the Selection Committee comprised of the following:

The Selection Committee invited the Panel of Experts at the meeting to submit their analysis and reports of the camp participants overall performance as observed from 12th – 14th February along with any observations related to disciplinary and bridge etiquettes/ethics seen at the camp.

In the Open category, there were 42 players /21 pairs participated based on their eligibility from the qualifying events. The format of camp included the play exercise of complete round robin of 3 boards each for the first elimination. 16 pairs were taken to next stage; format was kept consistent of 15 rounds of 4 boards each with 20% carryover. At the end of second stage, top 8 ranked pairs were selected for final league of 7 rounds of 8 boards with 10% carryover from stage 2. All scores were tabulated based on actual datum with 10% drops.

Based on the performance of the pairs at the Final league, the results for the Men/Open Category after carryover scores were as below:

The mixed event of the Pune camp was conducted among 11 pairs from the eligible probables. The format included play exercise of round robin of 10 boards each for two days. At the end of the round robin, the results are as under:

WOMEN CATEGORY:

In the Women Category, there were 7 players participating in the camp. The selectors undertook an evaluation camp of the players to determine the optimum combination of pairs for the BFAME (Bridge Federation of Asia and Middle East) and APBF Championships (Asia Pacific Bridge Championships).

 

The format included 4 rounds of 8 boards with a knockout match comparison along with Butler analysis of individual performance of each competing player. Based on the results and evaluation at the camp, the panels of selectors have pronounced the format order of pairs for the above event.
