European Open 2013 – Semi-finalists spottedJune 25, 2013
The Open teams event, the flagship event of the 2013 European open has progressed to the semi-final stage. The semi-finals feature the following teams:
- Groupe France (Thomas Bessis, Michel Bessis, Jerome Rombaut & Cedric Lorenzini) who came from behind to beat a strong Polish contingent
- Breno (Romain Zaleski, old warhorse Benito Garozzo of Blue Team fame, Andrea Manno, Massimo Lanzarotti, Ricardo Intonti & Mario D’ Avossa) who beat a powerful Dutch outfit by the narrow margin of 6 imps
- IsrMany (Ilan Herbst, Ophir Herbst, Alon Birman, Dror Padon, Josef Piekarek and Alexander Smirnov) who staved off the threat from the powerful De Botton team &
- Mazurkiewicz (Marcin Mazurkiewicz, Krzysztof Jassem, Pawel Jassem, Jakub Wozcieszek, veteran Piotr Gawrys & Piotr Tuszynski) who quelled the Russian American team-up of Apollo Soyuz
The semi-finals and finals will be completed on Tuesday, each match contested over 28 boards. After that, focus will shift to the Open, Women’s and Senior pairs events, which are also medal events. Non-qualifiers can play side match-point or Board-a-Match events. The event draws to a close on Saturday, the 29th.
