To the Presidents of BFAME members NBOs of:

Bahrain, Bangladesh, India, Jordan, Kuwait, Pakistan,

Palestine, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Sri Lanka, Syria and UAE.

Dear President,

Please accept my heartiest Seasons Greetings wishing you all a very Happy New Year.

I feel great pleasure in informing that the 20th BFAME Championships-2019 shall be held in the city of Amman in Jordan at Bristol Hotel from Sunday 23rd to Sunday 30th June 2019.

The run-up for the venue was undecided for a pretty long time due to the proposal of holding our Zonal Championships jointly with Zone-8 Championships in the African continent, which eventually did not materialize. Finally, Jordan Bridge Federation (JBF) won an overwhelming vote to host the next 20th BFAME Championships-2019 for the 5th time since its inaugural one in 1995.

Jordan has a good communications system with a choice of multiple GSM networks and dozens of radio and TV Channels. There are convenient air, road and rail links between its neighboring countries It has a rich historic background, both from the religious and cultural grounds. The ruins of Petra, which are amongst the wonders of the world, and the Dead Sea being the lowest point on earth, make Jordan a popular tourist destination. The city of Amman originally built on 7 hills has now expanded to more than 17 and presents a picturesque skyline. Amman has scores of hotels of international repute, a proof of tourist influx, along with plenty of good restaurants which offer some fine dining.  Shopping is delightful and one ought to bargain while purchasing indigenous products from the cottage industry. Pleasant weather combined with traditional Arab hospitality makes the visit to this country truly exciting and memorable.

BFAME has entered into an Agreement and the Memorandum of Understanding with JBF specifying the selection of the venue hotel and the related infrastructural arrangements as well as respective rights and obligations. As always, there is an overwhelming enthusiasm on the part of the organizers in making this event a grand success and a truly memorable and enjoyable one for all the participants. Needless to add, these Championships would be played with the aid of Bridge Mates wireless scoring and that the entire event would be available LIVE on the Internet and on BBO for the viewing comfort of bridge players worldwide.

This time, these Championships will comprise of Four Championship events: Open, Women, Seniors and Mixed Teams, wherein participants will be vying for the Zakaria Adamjee Memorial Trophy, Vinodini Goenka Trophy and Shaker Trophy and shall be held at Bristol Hotel, which has the distinction of holding mega bridge festivals every year..

Both the finalists in each event would earn the right to represent our Zone and their countries in the 44th Bermuda Bowl, 22nd Venice Cup and the 12th d’Orsi Trophy World Teams Championships, besides the 12th Transnational Teams.

The venue of our Championships, Bristol Amman Hotel, boasts a 5 star Boutique Hotel situated on Abdul Rahman Alawi Street close to the Al Baraka Mall in central business district of Amman. In addition to the hotel’s own restaurants, a good restaurant in the vicinity is known as Fame Restaurant which one could visit. The vibrant downtown Shmeisani area is not so far which has some popular eating joints catering international and Arab cuisine.

The Bristol Hotel is situated in the business district of the city and is offering us Superior rooms, Single or Double, @ US$ 110/- or JOD 78/- net inclusive of all taxes and buffet breakfast with complimentary Wi-Fi. (1 US$ = 0.70880 JOD or 1 JOD = 1.41084 US$).

The host JBF has offered to provide complimentary mineral water and running tea/coffee along with Hi Tea during breaks of the daily matches. There shall be complimentary welcome airport transfers and all possible assistance in the issuance of visas.

Jordan Bridge Federation, being keen to host the maximum number of teams from participating NBOs, has made necessary infrastructure and befitting playing area arrangements.  It is earnestly hoped that BFAME member NBOs will enter and participate in all the four Championships events: Open, Women, Seniors and Mixed Teams.

It is fervently hoped that the trials for selection of teams to represent your NBO, may be held as early as possible so that you are in a position to send names of the playing members of your representative teams, with photographs (scanned copy to be attached with e-mails) and convention cards latest by first week of April’19 to any of the following addresses to enable JBF to conveniently arrange for visas.  If necessary and so required, JBF will send invitation letters to the participating NBOs.
